Performances are held in venues ranging from small churches to premier venues in the Adelaide metropolitan area. Intrastate, interstate and international tours are also presented. The choir’s repertoire includes songs from famous musicals, Australian folk songs, Scottish, Welsh, English and other national hymns and songs, opera chorus, oratorio, spirituals and anthems. Our extensive repertoire is available on this site.
“Pleasant Sunday Afternoon” concerts (“PSAs”) are held at venues in and around Adelaide. These concerts enable the choir to bring enjoyment to the patrons as well as providing the venues with funding to support their operations. The afternoon is laid back with music from all genres. They are followed by an afternoon tea and an opportunity to meet the musicians, choir members and support group members.
Tours within South Australia are planned each year. In 2016 we visited Yorke Peninsula with concerts in Ardrossan and Yorketown raising funds for local hospitals. The positive feedback from the local community was a great reward for the choristers. In 2017 we performed in the South East of South Australia. These concerts enable us to work with the local communities to ensure our visit benefits the region. A highly successful concert was held in Murray Bridge in 2018 with funds raised to support those workers affected by the disastrous fire that destroyed the local abbatoir.
The choir has enjoyed performing nationally and internationally. We have visited major centres in Australia taking part in mass male choir concerts in venues such as the Sydney Opera House. Invitations are extended to national choirs to perform in Adelaide. We recently held a wonderful joint concert with the New Zealand Male Choir in Bonython Hall.
Overseas tours have been undertaken in Austria, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Netherlands and the United Kingdom. A highlight for many was the Festival of Male Choirs concert in the Royal Albert Hall, London. Currently plans are being made to tour to China and Hong Kong, Tasmania in 2019 and Italy in 2020
Practice is held each Wednesday evening at 7.30pm at the Cumberland Park Community Centre, 390 Goodwood Road. Additional practices are scheduled when preparing for special occasions or country/interstate/overseas tours.
